Production processes in the textile, leather and footwear industries often involve the use of a large quantities of water and chemical substances. If not properly treated, the resulting effluent can present a threat to people and to the environment.
The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme recognises the value of addressing hazardous substances that may be discharged into the environment during the manufacture of materials used in the textile, leather and footwear industry. Together with leading brands, governments and other multi-stakeholder organisations we created the most comprehensive and unified guidelines for wet processing facilities across the entire value chain. The ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines, which go beyond regulatory compliance, are designed to ensure that the discharge of treated wastewater does not adversely affect the environment and surrounding communities.
The ZDHC Gateway – Wastewater Module is a global web-based platform that is designed to share verified wastewater and sludge test data based on testing against the ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines. It provides suppliers (manufacturing facilities) with an easy way to disclose secured and verified wastewater and sludge data to their clients (brands/retailers), reduce the number of unnecessary testing and instead focuses on improving the quality of discharge.
ZDHC ClearStream, a universally-accepted wastewater reporting standard, helps you to understand your test reports and demonstrate your performance to customers. A ClearStream report can be generated from any wastewater test result uploaded by a growing number of ZDHC-accepted laboratories worldwide. The scorecard is designed to show wastewater performance in context with the industry-accepted ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines and provides clear guidance on opportunities for improvement in an easy-to-read, non-technical format.
