ARMEDANGELS as a Signatory Friend of ZDHC Brand
Since 2007, the Cologne-based ARMEDANGELS proves that fashion can be different: innovative and timeless, produced according to responsible standards for people and planet. No wage slavery, no hazardous chemicals, no cheap mass-produced goods. From the simple idea of printing T-shirts and raising donations for projects and organizations through sales, a company has grown that is now one of the largest sustainable lifestyle labels in Europe. With a team of 160 and four collections a year, ARMEDANGELS shows that responsibility and good product design are not mutually exclusive.
The brand addresses the structural problems of the fashion industry, including environmental degradation, social inequality, overproduction, and overconsumption. Its goal is to create products that have the lowest possible impact on the planet while enabling people to contribute to climate protection. This includes the use of organic and nature-based fibres, fair working conditions across the supply chain, a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the development of circular systems to minimise waste.
Beyond its products, ARMEDANGELS positions itself as an agent of change in culture and consumption. The company works with partners, innovators, and activists to explore new solutions and continuously improve its practices. It combines modern design with environmental responsibility and sees change in fashion as part of a broader shift toward sustainable lifestyles.
In 2025, ARMEDANGELS also opened its first own-brand store in Cologne, offering a physical space for customers to engage directly with the brand’s values and products.
That same year, the company developed its Impact*Roadmap (*change is about to get real), a comprehensive sustainability strategy with five key pillars. One of these pillars, Climate Action, includes the Moonshot Goal: eliminating the discharge of hazardous chemicals, preventing wastewater and air pollution, and enabling the recovery of water and chemistry across the supply chain. Moonshot Goals are long-term, future focused, overarching aims that define the brands future destination.
Joining the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme helps them move one step closer to this Goal. ZDHC provides a structured approach to align expectations with suppliers, track progress consistently, and gradually close existing gaps. It is not a quick fix, but a fundamental step to build long-term change together with supply chain partners.
Julia Aruni Kirschner, Director Impact & Innovation, has been with ARMEDANGELS since 2015 and leads the brand’s sustainability efforts with a team of social and environmental experts.
