2024 New Year message

January 3, 2024

Acknowledging our Committed Community and the road that lies ahead..

Where we started...
In 2011, the first Greenpeace "Dirty Laundry" report revealed the severe environmental impact of clothing and footwear production. In response, a coalition of six fashion brands made a commitment to phase out the discharge of hazardous chemicals from their supply chains. This collaboration marked the inception of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals movement and today the programme has accumulated a Committed Community of over 320 ZDHC Signatories comprising Brands, Suppliers, Chemical Formulators, Vendors, Solution Providers, and Associates.

Where we are going....
Our vision is a world in which better chemistry leads to the protection of life, land, air and water.. We take a holistic approach to sustainable chemical management that supports the industry with practical guidelines, solutions and training - and our future success depends on the collective willingness of all actors to work together to walk the talk on climate action.

Why tackling chemistry is key...

Tackling chemical pollution is also...
- working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- driving a reduction in water pollution and the conservation of water resources
- driving a more circular economy by reducing waste and promoting efficient resource use; and
- safeguarding biodiversity and natural habitats impacted by the fashion and textile industries.

"The work that our frontrunners are doing to achieve the highest standards for sustainable chemical management is working to create a world where better chemistry leads to the protection of life, land, air, and water. I want to take this moment to thank those that have shown dedication to ZDHC and who support us to raise the bar, as the urgency of tackling this issue mounts." - Frank Michel, CEO, ZDHC Foundation

The road ahead...
There is no simple or easy solution to the environmental crisis. The road ahead demands more commitment and action than ever before and a shared responsibility to broaden our collective perspective on environmental impact. If you are already standing with us, we thank you for your commitment to impact - and if you are yet to join our efforts, we welcome you in the year ahead!
